Betty Irabor and her husband, Soni Irabor are celebrating their 31st wedding anniversary today. The couple got married on 29th July 1983 and are blessed with two children. Happy anniversary to them.

Boko Haram kills 8, bombs bridge in Yobe

8 people have were killed and a major bridge destroyed after suspected members of the Boko Haram sect yesterday night July 28th launched an attack in Katarko town in Yobe State. Katarko is 22km South of Damaturu, the state capital and is said to be very near the dreaded Sambisa forest.

According to reports, the sect members arrived the village around 7.30pm in motorbikes and operated unhindered till 2.00am. The men had unsuccessful attacked a military base in the town before moving into a residential area. Continue...

SCENE OF MONDAYS BOMB EXPLOSION AT NNPC MEGA STATION

As part of on-going investigations into the various bombings that have rocked Kano State in recent times, police detectives have arrested five male suspects for their complicity in the attacks.
Two werearrested in connection with the foiled bomb attack at Isyaku Rabiu Mosque, while three were arrested in connection with the bomb attack at St Charles Catholic Church on Sunday.
All the suspects are currently undergoinginterrogation at different Police facilities.

We have insiders in commercial banks' suspected fraudsters confess

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected fraudsters identified as Kola Osho, Oyedepo Adesola and Kola Ademola, who allegedly specialize in withdrawing money from people’s bank accounts using dud cheques.

According to Punch, the police said the suspects usually obtained the cheques from people who are experts in stealing cheque books from unsuspecting people, then they will present the cheques to their insider in the bank, who will dubiously verify the account holder and the signature before the money could be paid out. El Rufai's son Hamza El Rufai died this morning in a fatal accident. Here are pics from the accident scene. Hamza was driving the black Lexus car (pictured above) when he ran into a stationery blue colored Volkswagen Saloon car around the Ningi Barrack along A.Y.A - Kubwa road aroudn 5.30am this morning July 29th.

Two persons were involved in the crash but only Hamza died. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, his corpse was taken to the national mosque by his parents while the crashed vehicles were deposited at the Maitama Police station. The Founder of Trinity House, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, has claimed that he has found a solution to the deadly Ebola disease, which has killed no fewer than 670 people and infected more than 1,000 in Africa.

Chido Obidiegwu, Master event compere extraordinaire and Special Assistant on Events to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state turns 50 on Thursday, July 31,2014.
This is wishing him a happy birthday and every best wishes. I spoke to Chido last night in Awka,Anambra state in the company of Uche Nworah, MD/CEO of Anambra Broadcasting Service and Emeka Ozumba, Special Assistant to Anambra state governor on media.
They sounded so upbeat and positive about the changing socio-economic landscape in Anambra state especially in the area of security. According to them, the governor's special security initiative 'operation kpochapu' has succeeded in chasing away kidnappers and armed robbers in the state.
They were relaxing at a 'point and kill' joint when i spoke them and invited me to visit Awka when next I am in Nigeria to see for myself. I will take them up on their promise. I will like to experience what the 'Willie is working' thing is all about.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wholeheartedly condemns the recent terrorist attacks in Kano and Adamawa States as well as the kidnap of the Lamido of Kolofata in Northern Cameroon, Lamido Seini Lamine and the wife of the Vice Prime Minister of Cameroon.
The President describes as shocking, callous and reprehensible the multiple bomb blasts that occurred in Kano within 24 hours, and the unrelenting attacks by the Boko Haram at a time the Muslim faithful are observing the holy festival of Eid el Fitri.

He commiserates with the families of all those who lost their loved ones in the Kano and Adamawa attacks and wishes the injured speedy recovery.

A bricklayer, Rasheed Sulaiman, was shot dead while testing the potency of a bullet-proof charm given to him by a herbalist, in Asipa community, Osun state on Saturday.
He allegedly called his cousin, Siji, to follow him to a secluded place to test the charm.
After having worn the amulet, he gave a gun to his cousin to fire at him.
The cousin fired the shot and killed Sulaiman instantly.
The sound of the gunshot attracted the attention of residents in the area and policemen were called to intervene.
The incident was said to have triggered panic among the elders of the community who believed that some other youths might have similar charms.

Rape Victims Need Specialised Care Experts

With about a year to go before the withdrawal of funding for the operation of the Mirabel Centre, the organisation is seeking financial support from public and private organisations, concerned stakeholders, philanthropists among others, to keep the centre running.
This was disclosed by the managing partner, Itoro Eze-Anaba, Partnership for Justice, which is an international organisation that is providing funding support for the Mirabel Centre. Muiscian Lagbaja over the weekend reportedly turned down an offer by the Iyiola Omisore Campaign Organisation to perform at the grand finale rally & reception for Pres. Jonathan scheduled to hold in Osogbo, Osun State, next week.

According to The Nation, Lagbaja was approached to entertain supporters of Omisore, the candidate of PDP in the up-coming governorship election in Osun State, but he declined the offer, saying;
"Though the court of the land discharged and acquitted you (Omisore) in the murder case against the former Minister of Justice in Nigeria, the late Cicero of Esa-Oke & foremost nationalist, Chief Bola Ige, I have deep-rooted innermost conviction that you are culpable in the death of my mentor and benefactor. Another bomb blast in Kano this morning

The Nigeria Police Force just announced that another bomb blast occurred this morning at NNPC mega station along Maiduguri road in Kano state. Continue for a press statement from the police...

Today, 28-07-14 at about 10:00am, another suicide bomb went off at Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC Mega Filling Station at Hotoro Quarter along Maiduguri Road, Kano. A suicide bomber suspected to be a female had slipped into the crowd of citizens buying kerosene at the Station before detonating the explosives. The suicide bomber and three others have been confirmed dead, eight persons are injured and rushed to the Hospital.
It is instructive to note that the Mega Station did not go ablaze due to the security barricade put in place by the Policemen on duty at the station. Such a situation would have clearly complicated the Emergency response. continue...

1 dead, 15 unconscious after all night prayers

The police in Aba, Abia, has confirmed the death of a four-year old boy after an all night prayer in a church on Saturday morning.
The police, who did not give the name of the deceased, also confirmed that 15 other persons were choked during the event.
A group called the Young Peoples Christian Fellowship, Ututu, Arochukwu, were reportedly made unconscious by fumes from a generating set used for the all night prayer meeting.
The police Area Commander, Aba, ACP Peter Wabara, made this known to newsmen in Aba. We got a phone call this morning that some persons were allegedly lying dead in a church at 8 Eziukwu road by Milverton Avenue, Aba.
So I mobilised my men and called in some doctor friends since the government doctors were on strike and they accompanied us to the scene of the event.
There we looked through the glass door and found them lying unconscious in a scattered manner. Fortunately, some of them were breathing so we moved them to two hospitals, he said. continue

For taking a piece of fish from the cooking pot, 34 year old Fatima Bankole (pictured above) said she got the beating of her life from her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, on Wednesday July 16th and now has 26 stitches on her face as a result of the brutal assault.

Narrating what led to the attack, Fatima, who is one of three wives, said as wives of the Alhaji, they had a roaster for cooking. She said on the day any of them cooked, they would first dish for their husband, then the children before serving themselves.

She said on the day of the attack, the last wife had finished her cooking and served their husband and the children. She, Fatima, then went for her own meal but as soon as the third wife saw her food, she immediately went to report to their husband that Fatimah had taken the largest chunk of fish in the pot. While answering questions about her baby's father and her daughter on Channel's TV Sunrise programme this morning, singer Omawumi revealed she will most likely get married next year.
"I will probably get married next year. We might do a location wedding or a local wedding. Warri is a good destination" she said

Sheikh's son, 5 others killed as police and protesters clash in Zaria

About 5 people, including the son of popular Zaria based Sheikh, Ibraheem El Zakzaky, were killed today after a clash between Nigerian soldiers and Shiite Muslims in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The Shi'a Muslim group had gathered in the PZ area of the town for their annual Ramadan ritual called Muzahara, where thousands of Muslim faithful march around the city dressed in black to protest a cause. They dedicated their march today to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

A source said the group were confronted by soldiers as they gathered after Friday prayers, chanting Islamic songs, carrying placards and condemning Israel's invasion of Gaza. The soldiers' mission was to disperse the crowd but one thing led to another and violence erupted. Shots were fired and at least 6 people were killed, including the son of the leader of the Islamic group (the son pictured above).

Indian rape suspects beaten by angry mob after 7yr old girl is found hanging from a tree

One man was killed and two others were badly hurt today by villagers in India who accused them of raping and hanging a seven-year-old girl. The girl was discovered hanging from a tree near the village of Kaliabazar, West Bengal, this morning and angry villagers quickly rounded up a local 'Tantrik' holy man and his two friends.

The trio were mercilessly beaten. One later died in hospital and the two others are still being treated. Continue...

Nigerian weightlifter Chika Amalaha has given Nigeria its first gold at the Commonwealth Games which started in Glasgow, Scotland yesterday July 24th.

Chika won the gold medal today after pulling a total of 196 points in snatch and clean and jerk in the 53kg class to beat her competitors from New Guinea & India who picked the silver & bronze medals.

A bit harsh, or you approve? In a bid to tackle the increasing spate of cult activities in the state, the Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha yesterday, July 25th gave a shoot-at-sight order for cultists to security operatives attached to Ohaji Egbema LGA where 6 people were killed during a clash between two rival cult groups known as Day-Gbam and Day-Well. Lol. See name of cults.

The governor gave the directive when he paid a visit to the troubled local government area, plagued with cult activities, where residents are said to be living in constant fear.

The governor inaugurated an Anti-Cult Task Force, which comprises of the Army, Police, SSS and the Imo Security Network, and gave them an order to shoot cult members at sight. The anti-cult task force will be deployed to troubled areas in the state to search for and move into cultists’ dens as part of measures to improve security situation in the State.
