Minister of Culture and Tourism, Chief Edem Duke, while announcing the choice of the oil rich state as host for the event at a media briefing in Abuja, described Bayelsa as having the record of successfully hosting international events.
Duke also disclosed that the state government has expressed commitment to partnering the organisers of the show and the World Fashion Organisation towards the building of the proposed Fashion University in the state.
Meanwhile, speaking to The Entertainer on the event, Director-General of the Bayelsa State Tourism Development Agency (BSTDA), Ebizi Ndiomu –Brown, said that Bayelsa State chose to host the African Fashion Week because it will avail youths and women opportunities in the fashion industry.
Ndiomu- Brown assured participants that the Bayelsa was safe for tourists and investors, adding that her agency and all other relevant agencies in the state were prepared to host a successful event.
Jointly organised by Banzuk Gold Entertainment, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Bayelsa State Tourism Agency and Legendary Gold Limited, top fashion brands from over 50 countries are expected to grace the event.
